Biography
I’ve been a translator, writer, proofreader and photojournalist for 25 years, in both of Canada’s official languages. My studies were in social sciences but I have translation experience in several areas, from military history to consumer products (electronics, furniture, stationery and general hardware, among others). As a writer, whether in journalism or fiction, I can describe all types of products, services and situations. I’ve published a novel, several short stories and numerous columns, in addition to a theatrical monologue for the Great Canadian Theatre Company. My studies in International Political Economy, mainly trade and export, are inextricably linked with a passion for Canadian cultural industries and the expression of culture in its various forms. Since 1992, I’ve worked as an author, photojournalist, translator and editor. My fiction in English has been published in Parsec (‘Oomblaug Day’) and Maisonneuve magazine (‘Better than Elvis’). In October 2014, CBC Canada Writes uploaded my story on belonging, ‘Legacy’. In 1997 I published a first novel, La Delphin (Prise de parole). I’ve studied in English with Canadian author Joan Barfoot in Humber College’s post-graduate online Creative Writing programme, which also features M.G. Vassanji and Lawrence Hill as faculty. Several of my short stories in French have been published in print (Virages, Arts Le Sabord) and online (Oc, Radio-Canada). My story ‘Le Streptocoque’, was one of the finalists in the science challenge in the French section of Canada Writes. Most recently, Prise de parole published my novella collection Car les dieux sont avec nous in 2016. As a journalist, I worked in several community newspapers and have enjoyed covering everything from mining stories to cultural festivals. I’ve had the chance to travel from Prince Edward Island to Vancouver Island, and have appreciated as well as documented the landscapes I encountered. Some of these are available in the ‘Canscapes’ section. This website also has an extensive array of my photos. I sell a line of greeting cards, some of which are available at the Covent Garden Market flower shop. Others are online at https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/dominique-millette.html. A few of my recorded songs are posted in https://www.reverbnation.com/dominiquemillette For more information on my aptitudes and services, please see www.dominiquemillette.com
